2005 C6 Chevrolet Corvette(sold)

"McQueen" Build #20319

This page and associated links are dedicated to my Corvette Coupe. I chose "McQueen" to be the topic of this page because of my passion and obsession for this car. It has, in my opinion, the most aggressive styling ever seen on a Corvette. It is a very refined sports car that definitely fits the definition of American muscle! There is plenty of horsepower generated from the all aluminum 6.0 liter LS2 V8 motor. From the factory it was rated at 405hp at the flywheel and 400 lb/ft of torque. With the aftermarket that is available for this vehicle you can really change the look and performance to suit your tastes, as I plan to do. I have tried to include some information that other Corvette enthusiasts would find interesting.

History

From the first Corvette produced in 1953 this car has had a certain following. With each new design(denoted as C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, and the current C6) this car has been improved and refined. My desire to own a Corvette started to manifest itself in the very early '90s and became an obsession for me with the introduction of the C5 in 1997. I actually found a 2004 Spiral Gray Metallic 6 speed that I almost purchased. While I was debating I located this 2005 Victory Red beauty and decided that this was going to be my first Corvette.

I went to look at the C6 on a Monday evening. I drove it for about 25 minutes and I knew I had to have it! When we returned to the dealership I began the negotiations to purchase. The entire deal was dependent on the wife's approval, and a satisfactory trade in allowance for my 2004 GTO. The numbers were agreed on in principle so off to the house I went. On the following Tuesday the wife got her first look and drive in, what was to become, our first Corvette. She approved!!!! We signed the paperwork, took the top off and just drove around town for about an hour in our new car. On October 15th, 2007 we were officially Corvette owners!

Car Specifics

"McQueen" came equipped with an all aluminum 6.0 liter LS2 V8(364 cu. in.) This motor is an overhead valve, sequential fuel injection beast that sports a 10.9:1 compression ratio and is rated at 400 hp(@ 6000rpm) and 400 lb-ft of torque(@ 4400 rpm). This awesome power plant is mated to a Hydra-Matic 4L65-E 4-speed automatic gearbox. It also came with electronic traction control, active handling, speed sensitive magnetic power assisted rack-and-pinion steering, double wishbone suspension, twin piston calipers with 340 mm vented discs up front, 330 mm discs and single piston calipers out back. To aid the braking Bosch supplied the four-channel anti-lock braking system. All this rides on stock 18x8.5 front and 19x10.5 Competition Gray five spoke wheels shod with high performance 245/40-ZR18 skins(front) and 285/35-ZR19's(rear). This vehicle was also equipped with the Z51 Performance Package which includes different springs, shocks, larger sway bars and larger cross-drilled rotors. Also included with the Z51 option are power steering and transmission fluid coolers. It also has the optional 3.15 rear gears for added punch off the line! This vehicle was rated from the factory at 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. 'McQueen' weighs in at 3,245 lbs.

Inside, this true American sports car came ready to play in comfort. The power bucket seats(8-way power driver and passenger) are adorned in ebony leather. The gauges are black faced with white lettering and white backlighting, there are machine-drilled pedals, and a driver's information center in the gauge cluster. The car includes a HUD(heads up display) with three viewing modes for cruising down the highway and a premium Bose stereo system with 7 speakers and a 6-disc in-dash cd player to keep the tunes flowing. There are many, many more features that I simply don't have space to to talk about.

Released production numbers for this beautiful automobile are as follows: Total units = 37,372

Of the total units produced for 2005, Coupes made up the largest portion at 26,728 units while the Convertible accounted for 10,644. Victory Red was the third most popular color at 5,617 vehicles produced. The Competition Gray wheels were a late addition to the option list and were only ordered on 621 cars.

I'm extremely pleased with the fit, finish, and overall build quality of my new ride. I'm enjoying it more and more everyday!!!!! Sadly, we no longer own this vehicle, as we used it as trade for our new 2012 Grand Sport.
